Module # 5.1.5

Search a database for specific information

Getting there

There are several different names for this.  515.gif (5869 bytes)

Technically this is called a QUERY.  It is also called a FILTER.

So you should:

Then you will see:515a.gif (2534 bytes)Enter a name (like FIRST).

You will then see:515b.gif (8355 bytes)

This means you can look for 5 CRITERIA at the same time!

515c.gif (2158 bytes)You start by choosing from the FIELD NAME drop down menu.

For this exercise, we will use Home phone.515d.gif (3333 bytes)

Just click on it!

Then we need to choose from the COMPARISON drop down menu.

Unless you are using real numbers (not phone numbers), CONTAINS is usually the easiest to choose.

This is because you do not have to exactly match the contents of the field.

Finally type in "1212" in the criteria column.

515e.gif (3453 bytes)From here we could add more CRITERIA.

We will just click APPLY FILTER.  You should see this.

Pretty cool! Bob was the only one with 1212 in his phone number.

Oh, to get the list back, go to RECORD and select SHOW, and SHOW ALL RECORDS.

Exercise #1

Try creating other filters in this database.
